USDA: Corn use for fuel ethanol production expands to 474 million bushels in March

United States ethanol producers consumed 474 million bushels of corn in March 2026, up 10% from February and 5% higher than March 2025, according to the USDA. Total corn use for alcohol and other purposes reached 523 million bushels, reflecting continued strong demand from the ethanol industry.

U.S. ethanol producers consumed 474 million bushels of corn in March, up when compared to both the previous month and March 2025, according to May edition of the USDA’s Grain Crushings and Co-Products Production report.

Total corn consumed for alcohol and other purposes reached 523 million bushels in March, up 10% when compared to the previous month and up 4% when compared to March 2025. Usage included 92.5% for alcohol and 7.5% for other uses. 

Corn consumed or fuel alcohol reached 474 million bushels in March, up 10% when compared to February and up 5% when compared to March of the previous year. Corn consumed for dry milling fuel production and wet milling fuel production was at 91.9% and 8.1%, respectively. 

At dry mills, condensed distillers solubles production expanded to 116,098 tons in March, up from 11,682 tons the previous month and 112,630 tons in March 2025. Corn oil production reached 202,784 tons, up from 180,097 tons in February and 188,359 tons in March of the previous year. Distillers dried grains production expanded to 479,000 tons, up from 334,592 tons in February and 382,594 tons in March 2025. Distillers dried grains with solubles production was at 1.79 million tons, up from 1.63 million tons the previous month, but down from 1.81 million tons in March of last year. Distillers wet grains production reached 1.33 million tons, up from 1.19 million tons in February and 1.23 million tons March 2025. Modified distillers wet grains production was at 485,967 tons, up from 455,493 tons the previous month, but down from 497,503 tons in March of the previous year. 

At wet mills, corn germ meal production expanded to 59,624 tons in March, up from 49,830 tons in February and 57,577 tons in March 2025. Corn gluten feed production reached 268,470 tons, up from 242,146 tons the previous month and 260,584 tons in March of the previous year. Corn gluten meal production was at 103,170 tons, up from 90,5289 tons in February, but down from 109,931 tons in March 2025. Wet corn gluten feed production was at 1914,594 tons, up from 170,163 tons the previous month, but down from 197,117 tons in March of the previous year. 

At dry and wet mills, carbon dioxide captured was at 237,657 tons in March, up from 228,160 tons in February but down from 241,425 tons in March 2025.
