Uttar Pradesh : No farmer registry yet? Sell wheat at procurement centres like in the past

Uttar Pradesh allows farmers to sell wheat at procurement centres without mandatory registry, easing access and preventing distress sales. With over 5,400 centres active, procurement is gaining pace, while authorities focus on ensuring smooth operations and basic facilities amid rising heat conditions.

Lucknow: In a relief to farmers, CM Yogi Adityanath on Monday announced that they will now be able to sell their wheat at govt procurement centres even without a farmer registry.

“Farmers will be able to sell their wheat as before,” the state govt said in a statement quoting Yogi. The CM directed all district magistrates to implement this system immediately. Adityanath also said that farmers coming to procurement centres to sell wheat should not face any inconvenience.

Earlier, the state govt decided to make the registry mandatory for the farmers to sell their produce. The condition also applied to availing benefits, including PM Kisan Samman Yojana. Likewise, the fertiliser distribution too was proposed to be moved from the transaction-based authentication to identity-based entitlement system.

Earlier this month, chief secretary SP Goyal issued a govt order maintaining that around 75% of the farmers in the state have been issued the IDs under the farmer registry and AgriStack scheme. The rest were proposed to be covered through scheduled campaigns.

In view of the extreme heat, proper arrangements such as drinking water, fans, shade and other basic facilities must be ensured at all procurement centres, the CM directed.

According to the food and civil supplies department, as on April 20, more than 2.38 lakh metric tonnes of wheat have been procured from over 42,000 farmers. More than 4.77 lakh farmers have registered so far for wheat sale. Over 5,400 procurement centres have been set up across the state.
