Western Uttar Pradesh dominates State’s sugarcane yield rankings
Western Uttar Pradesh dominated the state’s sugarcane productivity in 2025-26, with six Meerut-region districts ranking among the top 10. Scientific farming, improved varieties, trench planting, balanced fertilisation and efficient irrigation boosted yields, increasing farmer incomes and reinforcing the region’s sugarcane leadership.
Lucknow:Western Uttar Pradesh has reinforced its position as the state’s sugarcane belt, with six districts from the Meerut region featuring among the top 10 in average sugarcane yield during the 2025-26 crushing season.
According to district-wise productivity data, Meerut, Hapur, Ghaziabad, Bulandshahr, Baghpat and Aligarh ranked among the state’s highest-yielding sugarcane districts. Except for Lakhimpur Kheri, all of the top-performing districts were located in western Uttar Pradesh,ETV Bharat reported.
The state recorded an average sugarcane yield of 825.56 quintals per hectare during the season, while six of the seven districts in the Meerut region surpassed the state average.
Yashpal Singh, Deputy Cane Commissioner, Meerut region, said the improved performance reflected farmers’ adoption of scientific cultivation practices and modern agricultural technologies.
He said the Sugarcane Department has been encouraging farmers to adopt trench planting, improved sugarcane varieties, balanced fertiliser application, efficient irrigation and timely crop management. Regular technical guidance from departmental officials has also helped improve productivity.
The department has also been facilitating interactions between progressive farmers and growers from other districts to promote the adoption of best practices in sugarcane cultivation, including integrated pest management and judicious use of pesticides.
Singh said the higher yields have translated into better returns for farmers, contributing to stronger rural incomes and reaffirming western Uttar Pradesh’s status as one of the country’s leading sugarcane-producing regions.
