NEW DELHI: At least 11 people, including women, have been crushed to death in recent days while trying to get free flour from government distribution outlets in Pakistan’s Punjab province.

The cash-strapped nation is on the verge of crumbling as crises continue to pile up with foreign exchange reserves quickly depleting and an IMF bailout still eluding the Shehbaz Sharif government.

The lack of funds has forced the country to implement several austerity measures that have taken a toll on the common man as inflation has skyrocketed. Petrol and electricity prices have beer ked and millions of people now rely on government handouts for their meals.
