16,590 MT wheat procured in Pkl so far
Panchkula/Mohali: Procurement and lifting of wheat and mustard is going on smoothly in Panchkula district during the current rabi season with the govt agencies procuring
16,590 metric tonnes (MT) of wheat and 636 MT of mustard from the mandis in Panchkula, Barwala, and
Raipur Rani.
So far, 4,419 MT wheat and 631 MT mustard have been lifted from these grain markets.
According to the food and civil supplies department spokesperson, Hafed and Haryana State Warehousing Corporation have procured the grains.
Out of the total wheat procured, 7,150 MT was purchased from Raipur Rani grain market, 8,950 MT from Barwala, and 490 MT from the Panchkula mandi.
Hafed, out of the 4,419 MT wheat, lifted 1,971 MT from Raipur Rani and 148 MT from Panchkula grain market, while the other agency lifted 2,300 MT from the Barwala mandi.
Regarding mustard procurement, Hafed bought 386 MT from Raipur Rani mandi and 212 MT from Barwala, while Haryana State Warehousing Corporation purchased 38 MT from Barwala. Hafed lifted 598 MT mustard — 386 MT from Raipur Rani and 212 MT from Barwala grain market. The Haryana State Warehousing Corporation lifted 33 MT of mustard from Barwala grain market.
As rain threatens the overflowing grain markets of Mohali, commission agents (arhtiyas) have expressed concerns over the slow pace of lifting by the govt, especially after the region experienced two instances of rainfall.
Mohali deputy commissioner Aashika Jain assured, “We have sufficient tarpaulin sheets and other arrangements to save the grains from rain. We have reviewed the stocks with agencies concerned and resolved various problems, including lifting in Kharar grain market.”
She added that the Punjab govt has made adequate arrangements for purchasing wheat brought in by farmers in the district’s mandis and maintaining the quality of the procured grain.
