Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: While the process of releasing financial aid to rain-affected farmers from Marathwada has begun, the authorities have made e-KYC of bank accounts mandatory.

However, some farmers’ leaders have complained that many beneficiaries are facing difficulties in completing the formalities. Even the officials have admitted to technical issues in central portals.

As per the laid down procedure, tehsil offices from every district have to upload the list of beneficiary farmers, following which a code is generated that needs to be obtained by farmers from talathi-level staffers. Following the e-KYC procedure, which involves registered bank accounts linked with the Aadhaar card, farmers are expected to get help using the generated codes.

In the Nanded district of Marathwada, government aid of Rs 420 crore has been sanctioned to nearly 6 lakh farmers affected due to heavy showers during the recent rainy season. Of these, the necessary list of 3.5 lakh farmers has been uploaded. The related data for other districts of Marathwada was not available till Sunday evening.

Resident deputy collector for Nanded district, Mahesh Wadadkar, said only a few farmers were facing issues related to the e-KYC.

“The e-KYC has to be done using biometric details and Aadhaar-linked bank account. But the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) portal was down on certain occasions recently, leading to difficulties in e-KYC,” he said.

Farmer leader Rajan Kshirsagar said beneficiaries must not remain deprived of government aid due to difficulties in e-KYC. “The Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) service of the government is a laudable measure, but the system is not sound for implementation of the same. The authorities must address these issues on a priority basis,” he said.

As per the official estimate, in Marathwada crops on over 88,585 hectares were damaged due to heavy showers during the last rainy season.
