NEXTCHEM awarded licensing contract for its proprietary NX Circular gasification technology for SAF plant in USA

MAIRE S.p.A.’s subsidiary, MyRechemical, has partnered with DG Fuels Louisiana, LCC to deploy NX Circular gasification technology for producing 450 million liters of Sustainable Aviation Fuel annually by 2028. This initiative, focusing on biomass and municipal waste, supports the U.S. DOE’s Clean Fuels & Products Shot initiative and aligns with CORSIA standards for aviation emissions. DG Fuels Louisiana, a subsidiary of DG Fuels, will oversee the project aimed at reducing carbon emissions in the aviation sector. MAIRE CEO Alessandro Bernini emphasized the company’s pivotal role in global decarbonization efforts.

MAIRE S.p.A. has announced that NEXTCHEM (Sustainable Technology Solutions BU), operating through its subsidiary MyRechemical and leading in the Waste-to-Chemical sector, has entered into a licensing agreement with DG Fuels Louisiana, LCC for its proprietary NX Circular gasification technology.

Expected to commence operations in 2028, the plant will produce 450 million liters per year of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) from residual biomass and a small portion of municipal waste. MyRechemical has been chosen as the technology licensor for the gasification and gas treatment units capable of handling 1 million tons annually of bagasse, sugar cane trash, and pulp, marking the initial phase in SAF production. Under the licensing contract, MyRechemical will also provide the proprietary equipment for the gasification package, with an option for modular deployment to minimize on-site challenges, alongside associated technical services.

The project aligns with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)’s Clean Fuels & Products Shot initiative, aimed at decarbonizing the aviation sector through the industrialization of SAF production. Furthermore, SAF derived from biomass or waste resources qualifies under the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA), established by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) to reduce carbon offsetting obligations for airlines.

DG Fuels Louisiana, a subsidiary of DG Fuels, a U.S. firm specializing in renewable hydrogen and biogenic synthetic low-emission aviation fuel, is overseeing the project.

Commenting on the development, MAIRE CEO Alessandro Bernini stated, “This significant contract award underscores the reliability of our technologies and MAIRE’s role as a pivotal player in enabling industry decarbonization through circular solutions, particularly in strategic markets like the United States and globally.”
