Himachal budget: CM Sukhu hikes MSP for organic wheat by Rs 20 per kg, maize Rs 10; milk prices raised too


In a bid to promote organic farming, Himachal Pradesh CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced a significant budget initiative for 2025-26. The minimum support price (MSP) for organic wheat and maize has been increased, with wheat rising from ₹40 to ₹60 per kg and maize from ₹30 to ₹40 per kg. A ₹2 per kg transportation subsidy for delivery to procurement centers was also introduced. Additionally, natural farming will be adopted across all state farms, and a spice park will be established in Hamirpur to benefit turmeric and spice farmers.
MANDI: In a significant move to promote organic farming, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu unveiled several major announcements in the state’s budget for the year 2025-26.
Presenting his third consecutive annual budget in the Vidhan Sabha in Shimla on Monday (March 17, 2025), Chief Minister Sukhu announced a hike in the minimum support price (MSP) for organic wheat and maize.
The initiative is aimed at boosting the income of farmers and encouraging eco-friendly agricultural practices.
The MSP for wheat grown through natural farming has been increased from ₹40 to ₹60 per kg. The MSP for maize has been raised from ₹30 to ₹40 per kg.
A transportation subsidy of ₹2 per kg was announced for delivering wheat and maize to procurement centres. The MSP for raw turmeric has been set at ₹90 per kg.
Rs 6 per litre hike in milk MSP
Chief Minister Sukhu also announced that natural farming would be adopted across all farms under the state Agriculture Department. He said one lakh farmers would be integrated into the natural farming initiative in 2025-26.
He announced a hike of Rs 6 in the minimum support price of cow milk from Rs 45 to Rs 51 per litre and Buffalo milk from Rs 55 to Rs 61 per litre.
Spice park to come up in Hamirpur district
Chief Minister Sukhu said the state government would set up a spice park in Hamirpur district. He said the project was originally inaugurated during the UPA government in the Bada panchayat of Nadaun.
However, after the BJP government came to power at the Centre, the project was cancelled, he said.
“Now, the state government has decided to set up the spice park with its own resources, which will provide a major boost to farmers cultivating turmeric and other spices,” he said.
