Vietnam completes nationwide E10 rollout, boosting ethanol demand

Vietnam has completed its nationwide E10 petrol rollout, creating annual ethanol demand of about 240 million gallons. The policy covers all gasoline grades and is expected to exceed domestic ethanol production. US corn ethanol exports have reached 16.1 million gallons, boosting opportunities for further US supplies.

Hanoi – Vietnam has completed the nationwide rollout of mandatory E10 petrol in its most widely used gasoline grade, a move expected to create annual ethanol demand of about 240 million gallons.

The policy, which came into effect across all urban areas in June 2026, builds on Vietnam’s E5 RON92 blending requirement introduced in 2018. With the latest change, all gasoline grades sold in the country will contain ethanol, World Grain reported.

The US Grains & BioProducts Council (USGBC), which supported the development of the policy, said Vietnam’s demand for ethanol is expected to exceed domestic production in the coming years, creating opportunities for imports from the United States.

The council worked with the US Department of Agriculture’s Foreign Agricultural Service in Vietnam for seven years to support the policy. Their work included technical and policy workshops, study visits for Vietnamese regulators and US trade missions to Vietnam.

The USGBC said US corn ethanol exports to Vietnam have reached 16.1 million gallons since the E10 policy was announced, with a value of about $32 million.

The council said the exports were supported by an investment of $52,768 from the US Market Access Program and Regional Agricultural Promotion Program in 2025, generating a return of $606 for every dollar invested.

The rollout is expected to strengthen demand for imported ethanol as Vietnam moves towards higher blending levels and domestic production remains insufficient to meet consumption.
