2L MT wheat arrives in markets

Ludhiana DC Sakshi Sawhney reviewed wheat procurement, directing agencies to speedily shift grain from mandis to storage to spare farmers and arhtiyas bottlenecks. District Mandi Officer Amandeep Singh said arrivals have hit roughly 2 lakh MT, 96 percent already bought. DFSC Amanjit Singh Sandhu ordered simultaneous lifting by Markfed, Punsup, PSWC, FCI and private traders to prevent sack pile‑ups and keep operations smooth.

Procurement arrangements for wheat crop were reviewed at a meeting with the officials here on Wednesday.

Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney instructed officials of various procurement agencies to ensure smooth transportation of the purchased crop from mandis to stores.

She said that her aim is to prevent any inconvenience to farmers and arhtiyas. District Mandi Officer Amandeep Singh reported that approximately two lakh metric tonnes of wheat have arrived in the mandis so far, with about 190,000 metric tonnes purchased.

He stated that the arrival of wheat has increased recently, with 25 per cent of the total expected arrival reaching the mandis in just a few days.

District Mandi Officer Amandeep Singh assured that procurement arrangements in the mandis are running smoothly with various agencies purchasing wheat without delay. About 96 per cent of the crop that arrived in the mandis has been procured, he claimed.

District Food Supply Controller (DFSC) Amanjit Singh Sandhu stated that instructions have been issued to agencies and private traders to lift the procured wheat simultaneously, preventing accumulation of sacks in the mandis.

He said efforts are on to maintain a steady pace of wheat lifting, ensuring a smooth procurement process with officials of the procurement agencies involved, including Markfed, Punsup, Punjab State Warehouse Corporation, FCI besides private traders.
