USDA: Planted corn acreage up 5% when compared to last year

The USDA’s June Acreage report estimates U.S. farmers planted 95.2 million acres of corn in 2025—up 5% from 2024 and the third‑highest since 1944. Harvested acreage is projected at 86.8 million acres (+5%). Biotech hybrids account for 94% of plantings, unchanged year‑on‑year. The Quarterly Grain Stocks report shows June 1 corn stocks at 4.64 billion bushels (–7% y/y): on‑farm stocks down 16%, off‑farm up 6%.

The USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service on June 30 released its annual Acreage report, estimating that 95.2 million acres of corn have been planted in the U.S. this year, up 5% or 4.61 million acres when compared to 2024. This represents the third highest planted acreage in the U.S. since 1944.

When compared to last year, corn planted acreage is expected to be up or unchanged in 41 of the 48 estimating states. Area harvested for grain is expected to reach 86.8 million acres, up 5% when compared to 2024. 

According to the USDA, 94% of all corn acres planted in the U.S. this year are biotech varieties, unchanged when compared to 2024. 

NASS also released its Quarterly Grain Stocks report on June 30, which indicates corn stocks as of June 1 totaled 4.64 billion bushels, down 7% when compared to the same time last year. On-farm corn stocks were down 16% and off-farm stocks were up 6%.
