Uttar Pradesh: Notice issued to sugar mills over pending sugarcane dues

Authorities in Amroha, Uttar Pradesh, have issued final notices to three sugar mills for failing to clear sugarcane payments for the 2024-25 season. With dues totaling over ₹47 crore, the DM warned that non-compliance would lead to reduced cane allocations in 2025-26, redirecting supply to more compliant mills.
Amroha, Uttar Pradesh: District Magistrate Nidhi Gupta has issued notices to three sugar mills for failing to clear outstanding sugarcane payments for the 2024-25 crushing season. The move comes after repeated delays by the mills despite prior assurances, reported Live Hindustan.
As per the news report, according to District Cane Officer (DCO) Manoj Kumar, as of July 25, the unpaid dues amount to Rs 33.80 crore for Mandi Dhanaura sugar mill, Rs 7.45 crore for Belwara sugar mill, and Rs 5.83 crore for Karimganj sugar mill.
Mandi Dhanaura sugar mill had previously committed to making 100% payments by June 30 and later extended the deadline to July 31. However, the mill has not fulfilled its commitment, prompting authorities to take stricter action.
The DM’s notice, delivered through the DCO, serves as a final warning to sugar mills. It directs them to immediately settle the entire outstanding payment. Failure to comply will result in action, including the reduction of cane supply allocations to the mills in the upcoming 2025-26 crushing season. The diverted cane will instead be allocated to other compliant sugar mills in the region.
