The ongoing agitation over sugarcane pricing in Kolhapur district has been gaining wider support in recent days. Under pressure from farmers’ organisations, several sugar mills have started announcing their cane prices.
The Bhogawati Cooperative Sugar Mill’s decision to offer Rs. 3,653 per tonne was finalised in a meeting chaired by its Chairman, Shivajirao Patil, along with the board of directors.
Farmers have welcomed the move, saying it reflects their demands and could encourage other mills to follow suit.
