Telangana : Tensions flare at rice mill over delay in paddy procurement

Tensions flared in Nalgonda as a rice mill refused to unload paddy citing high moisture levels. Farmers faced delays until officials intervened, ensuring testing and resumption of unloading. The incident highlights ongoing procurement challenges and quality disputes impacting farmers during peak arrival season.

Kangal (Nalgonda): Tense situations prevailed at Sri Venkata Sai Rice Mill located at Dorepalli X Road in Kanagal mandal of Nalgonda district, after the mill management refused to unload paddy-laden trucks arriving from IKP procurement centers.

Upon learning about the issue, former Nalgonda MLA Kancherla Bhupal Reddy visited the mill on Monday and questioned the management over the delay in procurement. He demanded an explanation for not accepting the paddy and immediately spoke over the phone with District Collector B. Chandrasekhar and Joint Collector Srinivas, explaining the situation.

Later, Nalgonda DSO Venkateshwarlu reached the mill and held discussions with the management and Bhupal Reddy.

The mill management stated that they would only accept the paddy if the moisture content was reduced, claiming that the current levels were too high. In response, Bhupal Reddy insisted that the moisture levels be demonstrated practically. The management then conducted a test on the spot and showed him the moisture percentage in the paddy. Bhupal Reddy urged the officials to ensure that farmers do not face hardships and directed the mill management to immediately begin unloading the trucks waiting at the site.

Officials assured that the issue would be resolved quickly, bringing some relief to the farmers.
