Brazil’s Jalles plans higher cane crushing in 2026–27, shifts more output toward ethanol
Jalles Machado plans to increase sugarcane crushing by 10.2% to 7.8 million tonnes in 2026–27, while shifting more cane toward ethanol. Ethanol output is expected to rise 18% to 372,000 cubic metres, while sugar production will decline 4.2% to 418,100 tonnes.
Brazilian sugar and ethanol producer Jalles Machado is preparing to increase sugarcane processing in the 2026–27 season while directing a larger share of production toward ethanol.
The company expects total sugarcane crushing to reach 7.8 million metric tonnes in the upcoming crop year, representing a 10.2 per cent increase compared with the previous season, Reuters reported.
Despite the higher cane volume, Jalles projects sugar production to decline by 4.2 per cent to 418,100 tonnes as the company adjusts its production mix.
At the same time, ethanol output is expected to rise sharply, with production forecast to increase 18 per cent to 372,000 cubic metres.
Under its production plan for 2026–27, Jalles expects 41 per cent of processed sugarcane to be allocated to sugar manufacturing, down from 46.4 per cent in the 2025–26 season.
The share of sugarcane directed toward ethanol production is projected to increase to 59 per cent, compared with 53.6 per cent in the previous year.
The revised allocation highlights the continued shift among Brazilian producers toward ethanol as companies adjust output strategies within the country’s integrated sugar and biofuel sector.
