India’s corn exports seen hitting three-year high on record output, lower freight costs

India’s corn exports are on track to hit a three-year high in 2026, powered by record harvests, competitive freight costs and robust demand across Asia. Rising ethanol consumption and strong export competitiveness are reinforcing India’s role in global grain trade, though weather conditions remain a key factor to watch.

India’s corn exports are expected to climb to their highest level in three years in 2026, driven by record production and lower freight costs that have strengthened the country’s position in Asian markets.

Demand for Indian corn increased in key importing countries including Vietnam, Nepal and Bangladesh during the first five months of the year. Industry experts said higher global shipping costs following disruptions linked to the U.S.-Israeli conflict involving Iran also contributed to making Indian supplies more attractive, Business Standard reported.

India exported 1.08 million metric tons of corn in the early months of 2026, marking a rise from the previous year. Export volumes are projected to reach around 1.8 million tons by the end of the year.

Analysts said strong demand from ethanol producers and expectations of a favorable upcoming harvest could support further growth in exports, although weather conditions remain an important factor for production and trade prospects.
