ISMA estimates 333 lakh tonnes of gross sugar production
ISMA’s first advance estimate for India’s 2024-25 sugar production is 333 lakh tonnes, consistent with initial projections based on satellite imagery and field reports. Maharashtra’s output is expected to drop slightly, while Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh will maintain stable levels. With 21 lakh tonnes diverted to ethanol, net production is projected at 319.64 lakh tonnes, ensuring sufficient domestic supply, supporting ethanol blending, and allowing for potential exports.
ISMA released its preliminary estimates for sugar production in the 2024-25 sugar season (SS) on July 30, 2024, projecting a total of 333 lakh tonnes of gross sugar production. This estimate was based on pan-India imagery collected in the third week of June 2024 and findings from field reports, considering a normal monsoon season.
As is customary, pan-India imagery was gathered again in the third week of October 2024, and the results were discussed during our Executive Committee meeting on November 5, 2024. It was noted that crop conditions appear favourable in the major sugarcane-producing states, and the field reports are consistent with the findings from the satellite mapping.
As a result, ISMA is releasing its first advance estimate for gross production, which remains at 333 lakh tonnes (before diversion), consistent with our preliminary estimate. The details are provided in the following table:

Sufficient availability of sugar, as indicated above will not only ensure a comfortable stock for domestic consumption and sustain the Ethanol Blending Program (EBP), but also open the room for exports, contributing to maintaining the financial liquidity of sugar mills and enabling timely payments to farmers.
