Godavari Biorefineries Scales Sameerwadi Capacity to 800 KLPD with new 200 KLPD fungible grain/ maize-based distillery
Godavari Biorefineries has commissioned a 200 KLPD corn and grain-based distillery at Sameerwadi, Karnataka, with a ₹130 crore investment. The expansion raises the site’s ethanol capacity to 800 KLPD, adding 60 million litres annually and strengthening feedstock flexibility for India’s Ethanol Blending Programme.
Mumbai: Godavari Biorefineries Limited , an integrated biorefinery, has commenced commercial operations at a new 200 KLPD corn and grain-based distillery at its Sameerwadi unit in Karnataka. The Rs 130 crore facility brings the site’s total ethanol capacity to 800 KLPD, adding 60 million litres of annual ethanol production capacity.
By integrating grain processing alongside its existing sugarcane operations, the Sameerwadi facility can now transition between raw materials based on seasonal availability. Operational flexibility of this kind protects production volumes against feedstock and climate-related disruption. It also strengthens Godavari’s ability to better support our customers’ growing demands, while participating and contributing more towards Ethanol Blending Programme (EBP) and nation’s energy security.
Speaking on the commencement, Samir Somaiya, Chairman and Managing Director of Godavari Biorefineries Limited, said, “India’s energy future will be built from its fields. By introducing a grain-based ecosystem alongside our sugarcane footprint, we are building a truly resilient, circular biorefinery model that draws its strength from the sun, the soil, and the small farmer.
Ethanol blending programme targets give India’s biorefinery sector a solid floor, and we shall ensure a reliable & resilient supply chain, one that directly supports the agricultural communities that drive our feedstock network.”
With this distillery now commissioned, Godavari reinforces its ability to deliver consistently across ethanol, bio-based specialty chemicals, and renewable energy from multiple agricultural feedstocks.
