Pakistan Targets Bigger Rice Exports With Oman
Pakistan is boosting rice exports through a trade mission to Oman, led by REAP with support from TDAP. Meetings and networking events aimed to expand Gulf market access and strengthen supply chains. Oman showed interest in deeper ties, with plans for a business delegation visit to Pakistan.
Pakistan has stepped up efforts to strengthen its agricultural exports, particularly rice, as a high-level delegation from the Rice Exporters Association of Pakistan (REAP)) concluded a three-day trade mission to Oman, aimed at expanding bilateral trade ties and opening new market opportunities in the Gulf region.
The visit, organised by the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP)) in collaboration with the Embassy of Pakistan in Oman, took place from April 27 to 29, 2026, and brought together 18 leading Pakistani rice exporters.
The delegation began its engagements with a key meeting at the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry), chaired by Sheikh Faisal bin Abdullah Al Rawas. Both sides held detailed discussions on boosting bilateral trade, with a strong focus on increasing Pakistan’s rice exports to Oman and enhancing supply chain reliability.
Pakistan is already a major global rice exporter, particularly in basmati and non-basmati varieties, and officials highlighted the country’s potential to further expand its footprint in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) markets, where demand for premium rice remains consistently high.
The OCCI leadership expressed strong interest in deepening economic ties with Pakistan and announced plans to send a multi-sector delegation of Omani importers to Pakistan in the third week of May 2026. The move is expected to further strengthen direct business linkages between exporters and buyers across multiple sectors.
The Omani side also shared updates on efforts to address visa restrictions for Pakistani nationals, signalling optimism that easing travel barriers could further improve trade connectivity and business exchanges.
In a parallel initiative, the Pakistani mission in Muscat organised a dedicated business networking event, connecting REAP members with major Omani stakeholders, including rice importers, distributors, hypermarkets, and food industry companies.
The event served as a platform for direct commercial engagement, allowing Pakistani exporters to explore long-term supply agreements and better understand evolving consumer demand in Oman’s competitive food market.
