Pakistan’s sugar exports to Afghanistan jump 1447%, reach $91.69M in July-October

Pakistan’s sugar exports to Afghanistan have surged by 1447% in the first four months of 2024-25, reaching $91.69 million, compared to $5.93 million during the same period last year. Bilateral trade between the two countries also rose by 29%, totaling $703.15 million. Exports to Afghanistan grew by 51%, while imports increased modestly by 3%.

Pakistan’s sugar exports to Afghanistan have surged by 1447 percent, and overall bilateral trade between the two countries has risen by 29 percent during the first four months of the current fiscal year, compared to the same period in the previous fiscal year.

According to a Pakistani media report, the total value of bilateral trade between Afghanistan and Pakistan increased by 29 per cent, rising from $544.37 million during the first four months (July to October) of 2023-24 to $703.15 million during the same period of the ongoing fiscal year. The report further says that Pakistan’s exports to Afghanistan grew by 51 percent, reaching $450.14 million from $298.65 million in the same months of the previous fiscal year. On the other hand, Pakistan’s imports from Afghanistan saw a modest rise of 3 percent, reaching $253.01 million during July-October 2024-25, compared to $245.72 million during the same period last year.

On a monthly basis, bilateral trade between the two nations rose by 19 percent, from $194 million in September 2024 to $231 million in October 2024. Pakistan’s exports to Afghanistan in October grew slightly by under 2 percent, from $128 million in September to $130 million in October. However, imports from Afghanistan saw a sharp 52 percent increase, rising from $67 million in September to $101 million in October.

Additionally, the total trade value for the first four months of the fiscal year (July to October) saw a 24 percent increase, rising from $187 million in the same period of 2023-24 to $231 million in the ongoing fiscal year.

As per the news report by The Nation, the largest increase was observed in sugar exports to Afghanistan, which surged by 1447 percent, from $5.93 million in the July-October period of 2023-24 to $91.69 million during the same period this year.
