Russia exported 3.7 mln tons of major grain crops (wheat, barley and corn) in May, 1.6 times more than a year earlier, Interfax reported, citing monitoring data from the Russian Grain Union.
As Elena Tyurina, head of the analytical department at the RGU, said, wheat shipments last month also rose by nearly 1.6 times to 3.4 mln tons. Corn exports totalled 228,6 thsd tons, almost 3.6 times higher, while barley shipments reached 105,7 thsd tons, nearly 3.3 times higher.
“Overall, 12 types of crop products were shipped in May – including grains, pulses and oilseeds. A year ago there were 16. The trend toward a reduction in the number of shipped crops, alongside growth in exports of the main grain types, has been observed since the beginning of 2026,” the expert said.
At the same time, she added that since March there has been an expansion in the geography of wheat shipments.
Egypt remains the main buyer, with wheat shipments to the country in May up 2.8% to 448,2 thsd tons versus 436,000 tons a year earlier. Exports to Saudi Arabia increased almost 6.8 times to 444,000 tons. Turkey ranked third, with shipments falling 1% to 378,7 thsd tons.
“Corn in May was shipped to Iran and Turkey – 139,7 thsd tons and 89,000 tons respectively. These two countries were also buyers of barley – 102,6 thsd tons and 3,000 tons respectively,” the analyst said.
