Shamli district recorded an average sugarcane yield of 969.12 quintals per hectare in the 2025–26 crushing season, retaining its position as Uttar Pradesh’s most productive sugarcane district for the eighth straight year. Officials attributed the achievement to improved varieties, scientific farming practices and effective crop management.
Shamli: Shamli has once again emerged as Uttar Pradesh’s highest sugarcane-producing district in terms of productivity, securing the top position for the eighth consecutive year in the 2025-26 crushing season.
According to the crop-cutting results released by the Office of the Sugarcane and Sugar Commissioner, the district recorded an average sugarcane yield of 969.12 quintals per hectare, maintaining its lead over all other districts in the state, Hindustan reported.
Baghpat ranked second with an average yield of 914.16 quintals per hectare, while Muzaffarnagar secured the third position with 900.96 quintals per hectare.
The latest rankings extend Shamli’s dominance in sugarcane productivity, with the district holding the top position every year since the 2018-19 season. In the 2023-24 season, Shamli had recorded its highest-ever average yield of 1,036.04 quintals per hectare. Although productivity declined to 969.12 quintals per hectare this season, the district continued to outperform all others in the state.
District Sugarcane Officer Ranjeet Singh Kushwaha attributed the achievement to farmers’ sustained efforts, the adoption of scientific farming methods and technical guidance provided by the department.
He said the use of improved sugarcane varieties, timely sowing, balanced fertiliser application, proper irrigation management and effective pest control had enabled farmers to consistently achieve high productivity.
Congratulating the district’s sugarcane growers, Kushwaha urged them to continue adopting modern farming practices to further increase sugarcane production and productivity in the coming seasons.
