Ethanol producer BCL Industries’ total distillery capacity will increase from 700 KLPD to 1100 KLPD in near future

BCL Industries Limited marked its 50th anniversary on February 3, 2025. A leading grain-based ethanol producer in India, BCL plans to expand its distillery capacity from 700 KLPD to 1,100 KLPD. MD Rajinder Mittal emphasized BCL’s growth in green energy, including biodiesel production. Founded in 1976, BCL evolved from edible oils to ethanol and real estate.

BCL Industries Limited (BCL) entered its 50th year of incorporation on 3rd February 2025. BCL is one of the largest producers of grain-based ethanol in India and supports the Indian economy by reducing import dependence for the country’s fuel requirements.

Rajinder Mittal, Managing Director of the BCL, in a message addressed to the shareholders and employees of the company said, “The BCL story has been marked by many significant milestones, and reaching this point in our journey is undoubtedly a remarkable achievement, signifying not only longevity but also the ability to adapt and thrive through changing times. Many things have changed over the last 50 years, including the BCL way of business and it has come a long way from its original form. And that’s a process that is still ongoing as we undertake our latest re-engineering exercise, transitioning BCL from a local Punjabi Company to a well-known ethanol manufacturer in India, ultimately ensuring that BCL continues to remain at the cutting edge of production excellence solutions for the distillery industry.”

“Over the past five decades, BCL has grown to become a recognised green energy company, expanding on the credibility we have built in the ethanol manufacturing sector to service new customers in newer categories of distillery segment. And while technology has advanced in ways businesses are done but we still believe that physically witnessing and participating in our customer’s operations is a great way to build lasting partnerships,” he further added.

Emphasizing on progress company made in ethanol sector, MD stated, “In its 50th year of operation, BCL is poised for a quantum leap by increasing its Distillery capacity at Bathinda distillery from 400 KLPD to 550 KLPD. We also progressing well on the establishment of a 250 KLPD grain-based ethanol plant at our recently acquired plant location in the state of Haryana. As a result, BCL’s total distillery capacity will increase from present 700 KLPD to 1100 KLPD in near future. These capacity additions are expected to significantly strengthen BCL’s position as a leader in the grain-based ethanol manufacturing sector in India.”

Company’s distillery capacity in Kharagpur (West Bengal) is 300 KLPD.

To strengthen BCL’s commitment towards enhancing its green energy initiatives, the work on 75 KLPD Bio-Diesel plant at Bathinda distillery is going on in full swing and the Kharagpur distillery also received consent to establish a 75 KLPD Bio-Diesel plant.

In 1976, the Company was started by late Shri Dwarka Dass Mittal as a small edible oil producing plant which later became the household name in the northern India with its multiple brands of edible oils and vanaspati Ghee being used in almost every homes. The Company entered into real estate sector in the year 2005 and developed some of the finest projects in Bathinda city which are still considered to be the benchmark in the city. In the year 2010 the Company ventured into Distillery business and started establishing its 1st grain- based ENA manufacturing unit in the year 2011 and never looked back and ever since the Company is growing leaps and bounds in the ENA/Ethanol production business.
