Bangladesh : CCGP approves import of 2.70 lakh MTs of wheat
Bangladesh has approved the import of 270,000 tonnes of wheat to strengthen domestic food security and ensure stable supplies. The purchases include 220,000 tonnes from the United States under a government-to-government agreement and 50,000 tonnes through an international tender, reinforcing efforts to meet growing demand and maintain market stability.
DHAKA, July 1, 2026 (BSS) – The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) today approved seven procurement proposals, including the import of 2.70 lakh metric tons (MT) of wheat to ensure an adequate supply of the
staple grain in the country.
The approvals came at the 29th meeting of the CCGP for 2026 held at the Cabinet Division in the capital with Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury in the chair.
The committee considered proposals submitted by the Ministry of Food, Ministry of Agriculture, Road Transport and Highways Division, and Energy and Mineral Resources Division.
Among the approved proposals, the Ministry of Food received clearance for two wheat import initiatives.
Under an international open tender, the committee approved the procurement of 50,000 MT (¤5 percent) of wheat under Package-3 for the 2025-26 fiscal year.
The wheat will be supplied by M/S Agrocorp International Pte. Ltd., Singapore, at a unit price of US$297.92 per metric ton, with the total procurement cost estimated at Taka 182.84 crore.
In a separate decision, the committee approved the import of 2.20 lakh MT of wheat from the United States under a government-to-government (G2G) agreement at a unit price of US$322 per metric ton, with the total procurement cost estimated at Taka 869.56 crore.
