USDA cuts India corn production estimate to 50 million tonnes

USDA’s New Delhi office has cut India’s 2026-27 corn production estimate by 10% to 50 million tonnes, citing weaker sowing and yields amid a deficient monsoon. Corn acreage fell 4% to 89.99 lakh hectares by August 28, after record 55 million tonnes production in 2025-26.

USDA’s local office in New Delhi (Post) has cut its India corn production estimate to 50 million tonnes, a decline of about 10 per cent, citing lower sowing and yields amid a weak 2026 monsoon.

India produced a record 55 million tonnes of corn during 2025-26, an increase of 27 per cent over the previous year’s 43.4 million tonnes, according to the Agriculture Ministry’s third advance estimates.

Corn planting has been lower by around 4 per cent at 89.99 lakh hectares as on August 28, from the corresponding last year’s 93.87 lakh ha, as per the latest Agriculture Ministry data.
