India and UAE sign MoUs on nuclear energy, petroleum
During Sheikh Khalid bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s official visit to India on September 8, several key Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) were signed. These include agreements on nuclear energy operation with ENEC and NPCIL, long-term LNG supply between ADNOC and Indian Oil Corporation, and food park development between Gujarat and Abu Dhabi Developmental Holding Company PJSC. The visit aims to deepen India-UAE ties in energy and other sectors.
During the official visit of Sheikh Khalid bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, India and the UAE signed several important Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) on Monday, setting the stage for enhanced cooperation in areas such as nuclear energy and petroleum.
An MoU was signed between Emirates Nuclear Energy Company (ENEC) and Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) concerning the operation and maintenance of the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in the UAE. Additionally, an agreement for long-term LNG supply was established between Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and Indian Oil Corporation Limited, as stated in a press release from the Ministry of External Affairs.
Other agreements included an MoU between ADNOC and India Strategic Petroleum Reserve Limited (ISPRL), a Production Concession Agreement for Abu Dhabi Onshore Block 1 between Urja Bharat and ADNOC, and an MoU between the Government of Gujarat and Abu Dhabi Developmental Holding Company PJSC (ADQ) on developing food parks in India.
Sheikh Khalid bin Zayed Al Nahyan arrived in New Delhi on September 8 for his first official visit to India. Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal, welcomed the Crown Prince, who was also given a ceremonial reception upon his arrival in the national capital.
“A new milestone in a historic relationship. His Highness Sheikh Khalid bin Zayed Al Nahyan arrived in Delhi on his first official visit to India. Warmly received by @CimGOI @piyushgoyal and accorded a ceremonial welcome,” MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal noted on X.
The Ministry of External Affairs highlighted that India and the UAE have historically close and friendly ties, which have deepened in recent years through the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in various areas including politics, trade, investment, connectivity, energy, technology, education, and culture. The visit is expected to further strengthen India-UAE relations and explore new partnership opportunities.
Earlier this year, in February, Prime Minister Modi visited the UAE and engaged in discussions with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, during which eight agreements were exchanged.
